The PolFEL project is starting!
So it worked. The first Polish free-electron laser will be built at the National Centre for Nuclear Research in Świerk, and KLIMASTER will design ventilation and air conditioning systems for it. The project is marked with the symbol PolFEL. Free-electron lasers enable the study of materials, chemical compounds, and biological molecules with extreme precision. The results of scientific experiments can lead to revolutionary discoveries and new technologies in the field of electronics, medicine or chemistry. Thanks to this project, Poland will actively join the team of large research installations in Europe. PolFEL will be built in the hall of the first proton accelerator built in Świerk. A superconducting photocathode laboratory will be built next to it.
The construction of the PolFEL laboratory building complex and its technical infrastructure will be carried out by Mostostal Zabrze. The subject of the contract is the comprehensive performance of design works, construction and expansion of the buildings of the New Laser Laboratory for the Polish Free Electron Accelerator – PolFEL, together with with land development, the necessary infrastructure, as well as the final connection and commissioning of the installation along with obtaining the necessary decisions and permits.
Of course, this scientific infrastructure cannot function without ventilation systems and air conditioning, providing temperature control with a precision of ±0.5°C, with humidity control and dust purity. Laboratories will be provided with high air purity (ISO4, ISO5) thanks to diffusers with HEPA H14 filters. The amount of air will be controlled by electronic variable flow controllers.
Since even the slightest vibrations transmitted to the structure on which the base structure of the laser is mounted, coming from the installation are unacceptable, the entire technical part of the ventilation will be installed in the adjacent laboratory hall. Ruler magnets, electron catcher, WCZ amplifiers, undulators and circulators will be cooled with ultrapure chilled water produced in compressor cooling units. In turn, the direct cooling circuits of the helium compressor and vacuum pumps located in the cryogenics building will be cooled with process water.
After looking at the laser parameter table, where the power density is one with eighteen zeros, it can really get hot!!
We will provide further news from the construction process.
